Capacity utilisation at refineries rises to 91% in July

Capacity utilisation at domestic refineries rose to 91% in July compared to 83% a year earlier as fuel demand returned after lockdown restrictions were eased.

, the nation’s largest refiner, increased to 96% from 91% in July last year, as per the official data. , the owner of the world’s largest refining complex, operated at 87% in July compared to 74% in the same month last year. Its export-only unit operated at 76% while its other unit ran at 98%.

Bharat Petroleum ran its refineries at full capacity, compared to 83% last July.

’s refinery runs were at 60% as against 100% last July mainly due to maintenance shutdown this year.

HPCL-Mittal’s refinery operated at 114% compared to 108% last year while Nayara Energy’s refinery ran at 99% compared to 92% the previous year.

Indian Oil expects its refineries to return to full capacity by Diwali as fuel demand further improves.

Domestic crude oil production fell 3% year-on-year in July. Output from ONGC fields dropped 4% due to delay in the mobilization of rigs and installation of the platform in some fields.

Oil India’s fields produced 1% more than last year while output at fields operated by private players dropped 2%.

Natural gas production rose 18% year-on-year in July on output from Reliance-BP’s new fields in the KG Basin.
